This is Book 3 in a long-running urban-fantasy series about Harry Dresden, a wizard detective in Chicago. In this outing, deadly ghosts are causing havoc all over the city, but Harry can’t stop the chaos until he figures out who is behind it.

Harry is an extremely sympathetic and very active protagonist. He starts out as a loner in this series, but has gradually collected a coterie of fascinating allies, ranging from near saints to comrades of very questionable morals. The magical villains are terrifying, and the action is endless. All in all, Jim Butcher is a brilliant writer who never disappoints.

This review is mainly for the unabridged audiobook version of this novel. As always for this series, the quality is excellent. As is the case for the previous two books, this novel is narrated by actor James Marsters, best known for playing the character Spike, a platinum-blond, British vampire in the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off series Angel, between 1997 and 2004. Marsters continues to do an outstanding job. He is extremely effective at portraying all kinds of voices, from small children, to women and men of all ages, as well as the accents of different nationalities. He also doesn’t just dryly read the story, but dramatically acts out all the parts.

I have read the Kindle version of this book and listened to the audiobook version multiple times. I have enjoyed this story greatly each time.
