This is Book 5 in a long-running urban-fantasy series about Harry Dresden, a wizard detective in Chicago.

In this book, Harry must take part in a duel with a powerful vampire, the outcome of which will either end or begin a war between the Red Vampires and the wizards. There is also a professional hit man with supernatural skills who is after our hero. Harry must recover the missing Shroud of Turin, and the Chicago police need his help in identifying a handless and headless corpse.

I love Harry Dresden! He is a wonderful hero. The action in this book is intense, the villains very scary, and Harry’s allies are a fascinating and powerful bunch.

I have experienced this novel both in Kindle format and multiple times as an audiobook. The series continues to be narrated by actor James Marsters, best known for playing the character Spike, a platinum-blond, British vampire in the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off series Angel, between 1997 and 2004. Marsters, as always, does a wonderful job. He very capably portrays male and female characters of all ages and many different regional accents. He does a terrific job acting out all the parts.

I rate this book as follows:

Hero: 5

Subcharacters: 5

Worldbuilding: 5

Action-Adventure Plot: 5

Writing: 5

Audiobook Narration: 5

Overall: 5
