Violet Carter is a 30-year-old phlebotomist (a lab technician who draws blood) who moved to the (fictional) town of Diamond Creek, Alaska to get as far away as possible from the scene of heartbreak. As the adult survivor of childhood leukemia, she can never have children, and her fiancé dumped her because of it. She is determined to remain single and never risk that kind of rejection again.

Sawyer Hamilton is a 34-year-old SEAL who is recovering from a traumatic leg injury that occurred during a dangerous mission several months ago. He has family at the Frontier Lodge in Diamond Creek, and he decides to come and stay with them while he is on medical leave. He will have to make a decision soon about whether to stay in the Navy or retire, since he can never hold anything but a desk job after his injury. He has not dated in a long time, and his life is in flux, so he is in no position to form a committed relationship with a local woman.

Diamond Creek is a small town, and it is not surprising when these two single, attractive individuals meet. The chemistry between them is immediate and overwhelming. They both agree at the outset that neither wants anything serious, but it soon becomes apparent that what they feel for each other goes far beyond sex.

Violet and Sawyer are very sympathetic protagonists. I liked and admired them both. Their sex scenes are both sensual and heartwarming, because these characters truly care about each other.

This is an HEA romance, and there is a really nice epilogue. There are pleasant cameos from characters in previous books in this series, but they do not at all impinge on the main story that is the romance between Violet and Sawyer.

I have enjoyed every book I have read so far in this delightful series. I love the beautiful, rugged Alaskan setting, and the small town of Diamond Creek is quite unique among every other small-town setting in a romance series that I’ve read over the years. I will definitely read every book in this series.
